A beloved stop for locals, the market comes alive in every season. During the colder months, it offers a cozy indoor shopping experience, while in spring and summer, vendors spill out into the open air. Expect a delicious array of fresh produce, local meats and eggs, artisanal cheeses, homemade preserves, pickles, and warm, freshly made bannock. It’s a true taste of Northern BC’s food scene and a must-visit on your tour.

Next, make your way to the Wilson Square Farmers’ Market, a vibrant, volunteer-run non-profit that sets up every Saturday from May through October.
Fuel up with a hot breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee as you browse the lively stalls. You’ll find everything from farm-fresh meats and organic produce to wild-foraged mushrooms, artisan baking, handcrafted goods, and local artwork. Don’t forget to pause and enjoy the live music—local performers add to the fun, community vibe that makes this market a true Prince George favourite.

The Open Door Cafe
Nestled in the heart of Prince George’s Hart neighbourhood, The Open Door Café is a shining example of the city’s community spirit. What began in May 2021 as a humble coffee cart has grown into a full-fledged café—complete with Prince George’s first locally owned drive-thru. Owner Katrina Wiebe and her team are unapologetically “coffee nerds,” proudly serving coffee roasted right in Prince George, teas from the Shuswap, and fresh baked goods from more than six local bakers.
The café’s commitment to supporting local runs deep. With a carefully curated artisan section filled with goods from talented local makers, The Open Door Café now supports over 40 small businesses—an incredible 96% of which are based right in Prince George. This vibrant, welcoming café has become a beloved gathering place for the community—and once you visit, it’s easy to see why.

Trench Brewing and Distilling
Trench Brewing & Distilling, located in Prince George’s gritty yet vibrant east-end, is more than just a craft brewery—it’s a celebration of the local landscape and community. Opened in 2018 by Craig & Esther Schwenning alongside Bailey & Jesse Hoefels, it sprang from a backyard hobby into a full-fledged tasting room complete with large communal tables, reclaimed timber accents, and antler-inspired décor—evoking a distinctly Northern-BC character. Its flagship lineup of beers, like the citrus-driven Pine Pass Pale Ale and fang-named IPA, are inspired by local landmarks along the Rocky Mountain Trench, and available in growlers and on tap across downtown restaurants. With a menu brimming with house‑smoked brisket tacos, pulled‑pork plates, and a fast-growing vodka‑seltzer line, it draws locals for food and drink alike
