There’s something deeply grounding about starting your day with no real agenda—just a craving for fresh air, good food, and a bit of BC adventure. Last weekend, we packed a light daypack, opened the Evo app, and found a nearby car ready to roll. The destination? The Squamish Farmers’ Market tucked in the mountains—where local flavours meet alpine air. I used the Tasting Passport App to find the location and hours.

Getting There with Evo
There’s nothing like hitting the open road from the city into the trees. With Evo, the ride was smooth and spontaneous. No need to worry about parking logistics or returning a car to the same place—just freedom. The route wound through forested roads with breathtaking views, and before long, we rolled up to a charming farmers’ market nestled in a little mountain town.

Market Magic in the Mountains
From fresh-picked strawberries to gourmet cookies and handmade pottery, the farmers’ market had that unhurried energy that only places surrounded by nature seem to offer. I sampled small-batch jams, chatted with a local farmer, and picked up a few essentials: BC-grown strawberries, a bundle of fresh BC-grown romaine, and a fascinating product I’d never seen before—Mountain Meal Prep’s “Walking Tacos.”
It’s a locally made, backpacker-friendly meal kit: just add boiling water, wait twenty minutes, and boom—hot, spiced taco filling with real ingredients. Ideal for campers, hikers, or anyone who wants a hot, comforting meal outdoors without lugging a full kitchen.
An Afternoon Outside & A Trailside Meal
After wandering the farmers’ market and exploring a nearby forest trail, we found a perfect picnic spot by a creek—mossy, quiet, and sun-dappled. All we had to do was bring some boiled water and the ‘Walking Tacos’ mix while prepping a few fresh add-ins from my market haul.
Here’s the quick & simple recipe I whipped up:
🔥 Trailside BC Tacos — made with local B.C. ingredients
Ingredients:
- 1 package Mountain Meal Prep “Walking Tacos”
- 1 ¼ cup boiling water (optional: add ½ a cube of chicken bouillon for added flavour)
- 4 tortillas
- 2 cups freshly chopped B.C. romaine lettuce
- 4 tbsp Everland Foods salsa
Preparation:
- Boil water and dissolve in a bouillon cube. Add to a thermos.
- Chop lettuce and pack alongside tortillas and salsa.
- Make the “Walking tacos” according to package directions: remove oxygen filter, add boiling water, mix and allow to sit until rehydrated (about 20 minutes).
- Serve on tortillas and top with lettuce and salsa and enjoy!

Why It Mattered
It wasn’t just the meal that made the day memorable—it was the simplicity. BC-grown food, made by local hands, cooked in the fresh mountain air. It felt like everything had come full circle: from the land, to the market, to my plate, with only a ride share and a picnic basket in between.
Whether you’re a weekend adventurer or just want to feel more connected to where your food comes from, I can’t recommend this kind of trip enough. And next time you hit the road, don’t forget: BC’s got a pantry full of stories—and Evo makes it easy to go find them.
Pro Tip: Keep a camp stove, mug, and spoon in your daypack. You’ll never know when the wild will call for a meal like this.
