When Barbara and Gaston left Chile and settled in Nelson, BC, they brought something irreplaceable with them: a generations-deep love of chocolate and the warmth of Chilean culture. That love became Cachai Chocolate, a family-owned business handcrafting alfajores the traditional way, soft, delicate cookies filled with rich dulce de leche and enrobed in chocolate, made with the same care and technique Barbara grew up watching in her father’s chocolate factory back home.

Her father ran that factory for over 30 years. That legacy lives in every batch.

Founded in 2022, Cachai Chocolate was born from a simple desire to share a piece of home with a new community. The name says it all. “Cachai” is a beloved Chilean expression, something like “you know?” or “get it?” It’s the kind of word that shows up in everyday conversation, casual and warm and full of connection. For the family behind the brand, it’s a perfect fit. Food, like language, is how they reach people.

Through traditional recipes and techniques passed down through generations, Cachai Chocolate keeps those roots alive while creating something new here in Canada. Every alfajor is a small act of storytelling, a way to honour where they came from and invite others into that world.

Find them at a farmers’ markets in Nelson, BC this summer and taste the tradition yourself. Cachai?
