Daajing Giids Farmers’ Market
Haida Gwaii / Daajing Giids
Daajing Giids - Pronounced as daw-jean-geeds, which in the Haida language translates as "the hat of a child of a chief.". Daajing means "hat," whereas giids means "child,". Alternatively, according to GwaaGanad, a member of the Skidegate Haida Immersion Program, "giids" is an honourable term, so it likely means "the child of a chief."
Twenty-five years of community support.
Back in 1994, a small handful of local farmers began a roadside market out the back of their trucks. After years of community support, the Daajing Giids Farmers’ Market in Haida Gwaii now operates year-round. No matter the weather, a hot lunch is always available alongside farm-grown produce, fresh sourdough bread, homemade preserves, and eggs.
Operating on the traditional territories of the Haida People in Daajing Giids.
This market participates in the BC Farmers' Market Nutrition Coupon Program.
